Minnetonka is a big community with a lot of people but it seems like everyone knew who David Wynn Bigham was. David was a big part of the Minnetonka community, he was a husband, a father, a coach and most importantly he was a friend to everyone he met. He always had a smile on his face and would always be there to lend a helping hand.
When David was lost due to a sudden heart attack, the community and his friends reacted in a big way. David’s friends decided to set up a fundraising golf tournament for the community to help out David’s family in this tough time. It wasn’t at all surprising when the community turned up to help out David’s family raising over $75,000. The success of the fundraiser gave David’s friends an idea: in honor of David’s passion for helping out the community they created a foundation, the DWB.
The DWB foundation followed in David’s footsteps, purchasing the North American Pond Hockey Championships, an organization that David was actively involved in and transformed it into an organization that gives back to the community. The NAPHC brings the community together every winter raising money for beneficiaries like the following: ALS, Park Nicollet Health Services Foundation and other organizations that benefit the community. In just five years, starting in 2014, the combined effort of the NAPHC and Golf For Bigsy Golf Extravaganza has raised over 1 million dollars for various foundation across the community.
The impact David Wynn Bigham had on his community continues to grow through his friends and family. The DWB has brought the Minnetonka residents together in giving back to their community.
