Dinomights
Helping on the ice, and off, Dinomights is a non-profit organization, that originated in 1994, destined to help underprivileged children with athletics, faith, and academics. They have on-ice sessions for their kids, that is learn to skate for their younger kids, and a more organized hockey practice, and team for their older kids.
As they focus on athletics, they have just a focus on academics as well,
they offer a summer camp to all their participants, which helps teach the kids faith, and help them with their studies.
During the school year, DinoMights has tutors set up for the kids to
assist them with their studies. As Matt Quinn said, “DinoMights really helps their kids with academics, in a typical Minneapolis school, graduation rate is just above 65%, while our kids in the DinoMights program have above 90% graduation rate, which shows just how much of an impact this organization has on its kids.”
During the springtime, they have many learn-to-skate sessions for their
younger participants to get the feel of skating for the first time. They have multiple locations for these lessons, as some lessons are hosted by Minnetonka’s own Impact Hockey at Pagel Arena.
Their plans for the future? Expand into other neighborhoods in
Minneapolis, and increase volunteer count to be able to help even more kids. As the program gets bigger, and bigger, more people give their time to volunteer, or donate equipment to the organization.
They recently added a youth hockey peewee team that competes in
Minnesota hockey with other cities, which is a big move forward for this organization, as they will try to create more youth teams moving forward.
