Every weekend the Twin Cities host a multitude of local events. This weekend we decided to go to LuckyPalooza in St. Paul to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. This community event lets the people gather and participate in a variety of different activities, try a variety of foods, and listen to new music. The local festival was full of good times, good music, and fun people.

LuckyPalooza allows guests to choose from a very large food selection. This includes great food from two blocks full of different restaurants. One of the big names was Cossetta’s, an Italian food market. Another was Burger Moes, a fun and relaxed burger place. There was also Patrick McGovern’s, a fully functioning Irish style pub which fit the theme of the whole festival.
Since it was a St. Patrick’s Day celebration, it only made sense to play Irish music. Throughout the block party you could hear the nice Irish tunes playing. If you ventured into one many tents there would be a change to the mood, going from old Irish music to live covers of more modern music. There was even a DJ playing his own special mix prepared exclusively for the event.
The people at LuckyPalooza were just as festive as the Irish decorations. There were people painted green, people sporting tall green top hats, people wearing clovers around their neck, and even individuals who have dyed their beards red just like a leprechaun. When music would pick up, some would attempt an Irish jig with their friends. There was a variety of different ages ranging from the new generation to the old, both coming together for a common celebration.

LuckyPalooza didn’t just provide musical entertainment; it also gave its guests a show. In the middle of the festival there was a walled-off rectangle encasing a ramp. BMX trick bikers would use this ramp to gain air to do a variety of different tricks. They were back flipping, spinning around, and soaring into the air. It was quite the spectacle. The bikers consisted of both young adults and children, professionals and novices. The show lasted from 3:00 to 6:00pm and had a full audience the whole time.
Overall, LuckyPalooza was a fantastic local event. There was fantastic food from many different restaurants, a great variety of music, festive decorations, interesting people, and fun entertainment. The tradition has only been standing for two years but we can’t wait to attend again next year.
